Google Adds AI Reporting Tools to Ads and Analytics: What to Verify
A practical guide to Google's new AI Overviews, prompted dashboards, custom insights and campaign benchmarks in Google Ads and Analytics.

What changed
The short version.
Google has announced new AI-assisted reporting features across Google Ads and Google Analytics. Analytics is adding homepage AI Overviews that summarise notable changes and can pass context into Ask Advisor. Google Ads is adding personalised insight cards and a prompt box for custom questions. Prompt-built visual dashboards are available in Google Ads and are planned for Analytics, while Ask Advisor in Analytics can compare campaign performance with anonymised averages from similar businesses. Google says the referenced Advisor capabilities are currently in beta for English-language accounts, so availability may vary.
Why it matters
What this changes for a business.
- 01
Small teams may be able to find material changes and build useful reporting views faster, especially when an account contains many campaigns or acquisition channels.
- 02
A generated explanation can accelerate investigation, but it does not replace checking the underlying date range, filters, attribution settings, conversion definitions and source rows.
- 03
An anonymised benchmark can provide directional context, but the business's margin, lead quality, capacity and customer value still determine whether performance is commercially acceptable.
Practical guide
How to use AI-assisted reporting without losing control of the evidence
Confirm availability and scope
Check whether Ask Advisor, homepage summaries, prompted insights or dashboards are visible in the intended Ads or Analytics property. Google describes the Advisor capabilities in this announcement as an English-language beta, so do not promise access in every account.
Start with one decision
Ask a bounded question such as why qualified lead volume changed, which campaigns lost impression share or which landing pages produced verified enquiries. Record the property, reporting period and comparison period before prompting the system.
Check the metric definitions
Confirm which conversions or key events are included, whether values are imported or platform-assigned, which attribution settings apply and whether consent or tagging gaps affect the data. A fluent summary can still be based on the wrong success event.
Reproduce the finding in the source report
Open the campaign, acquisition or landing-page report behind the generated insight. Match its date range, filters, segments and totals. Investigate large differences instead of copying the summary into a client report.
Treat benchmarks as context, not a target
Document what Google says the comparison represents and avoid assuming that an anonymised peer average shares the same market, margins, sales cycle or lead-quality standard. Compare the benchmark with the business's own stable baseline and commercial limits.
Review recommendations before changing campaigns
Separate diagnosis from action. Estimate likely business impact, check budget and fulfilment constraints, and keep the normal approval route for material bidding, budget, targeting or measurement changes.
Save an auditable decision note
Record the original question, generated observation, source report, validation result, decision, owner and review date. This makes the faster workflow useful without turning an AI response into undocumented evidence.
Avoid these mistakes
What not to do.
- Do not report an AI-generated explanation as a confirmed cause until the supporting report and business context agree.
- Do not compare partial and complete periods, or properties with different conversion and consent configurations.
- Do not let a peer benchmark override the business's break-even acquisition cost, lead-quality threshold or delivery capacity.
- Do not apply material budget, bidding or tracking changes merely because an insight card recommends them.
- Do not include customer identifiers, confidential lead details or unnecessary personal data in free-text prompts.

These features can shorten the path from a broad performance question to a useful report, which is valuable for small teams. The safe advantage is faster investigation—not automated certainty. Use the generated view to decide where to look, validate the evidence in the underlying reports and keep commercial judgement and change approval with the people responsible for the account.
Quick answers
Questions about this update.
Are the new AI reporting features available in every account?
Not necessarily. Google's announcement says the referenced Advisor capabilities are currently in beta for English-language accounts, and it describes prompted dashboards for Google Analytics as coming soon.
Can Ask Advisor explain why performance changed?
It can suggest and summarise likely drivers from the available platform data. Treat that as an investigation lead and reproduce the result in the underlying report before describing a cause as verified.
Are the Analytics benchmarks a target a business should follow?
No. Google describes anonymised averages from similar businesses. They can be directional context, but the useful target must still reflect the business's margins, customer value, lead quality and capacity.
Should a team act on an AI insight immediately?
Only when the underlying data, business impact and authority to make the change are clear. Material campaign or measurement changes should follow the account's normal review and approval process.
